Duke TIP looking for instructors and teaching assistants

Duke TIPDuke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) is seeking instructors and teaching assistants for courses being offered to highly gifted middle and high school students. The instructor is responsible for designing a course or using a Duke TIP syllabus to teach a course to a group of approximately 16-20 academically gifted students. The instructor position requires at least a year of graduate coursework and/or teaching experience with specific emphasis in the subject area, while the teaching assistant position requires completion of at least two years of undergraduate coursework.

Collaborative Editor for Circuit Schematics

Upverter runs entirely in-browser (no need to download and install any programs), and will allow users to work on a schematic at the same time as other users. While you can’t perform any simulations on the schematics within the editor, it is very useful for prototyping and sharing your ideas. PHP Programmer Position Available

Local 13 year old Web development firm is seeking a full time experienced PHP programmer. Applicants must have the ability to design, plan and see projects through completion. In addition, the applicant must be driven, innovative and have a thirst to learn new technology. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are imperative.

Responsibilities:

  • Build web-based applications and websites
  • Create and maintain existing PHP codebases
  • Implement and troubleshoot programming changes and modifications
  • Prioritize tasks and multi-task in order to set and meet project deadlines
  • Work closely with graphic designers and other team members
  • Design and optimize MySQL databases
  • Perform maintenance and updates to existing websites and custom PHP-based software
  • Interact effectively with clients

Requirements:

  • Background in web administration
  • Understanding of CMS systems
  • At least 3 years work experience in web content and/or web applications development
  • Proficent working knowledge of the following:
  • Apache
  • PHP
  • MySQL
  • HTML and CSS
  • Javascript (including AJAX techniquies and jQuery) and XML
  • Subversion and version control systems

Helpful Experience:

  • FreeBSD and/or Linux server administration
  • Cloud hosting environments
  • Understanding of back-end and hosting infrastructure, including BIND, DNS and Apache configuration

We are looking for smart, talented individuals with exceptional programming abilities.  Whether student or professional, you must display knowledge of object oriented programming, good programming practices, and an aptitude for problem solving.  You must be able to learn new programming languages and technologies quickly as these may vary based on the needs of the project.  We do not require experience with any particular language or technology, but experience in the following will be a plus:  C#, Unity, Flash, Unreal, Objective-C, iOS, Android, Facebook SDK.  We also prefer individuals that are passionate about playing and making games.

Take Advantage of On-Campus Interviews and Other Career Services Activities

Susan Feinberg, the College of Engineering liaison from Career Services, has provided us with dates and activities that Career Services will be hosting this fall.

The most urgent date relates to our on-campus interviewing (OCI) program.  There are 9 “weeks” in our OCI fall program.  Resume submissions end next week (8/31/2011) for employers interviewing during “Week 1” (9/19/2011-9/23/2011).  Qualified students, per employer entered criteria, will be able to submit their resume on Careers2Geaux until this deadline.  Each Wednesday presents a new deadline.  For employers in “Week 2”, qualified candidates have until 9/7/2011, “Week 3”= deadline of 9/14/2011, etc.  These deadline dates are in the next few weeks and there are several companies your students might be interested in.  Additional employers are being added daily so students should check Careers2Geaux often.
